SDG Simulations

Spacetime discontinous Galerkin (SDG) simulations are a recent alternative to traditional semi-discrete finite element methods. These simulations do not enforce a globally consistent time step over the problem domain, allowing adaptivity in both space and time. The SDG method allows efficient simulation of problems with extremely sharp features, such as sharp wave fronts and fractures. The purely local nature of the SDG solution procedure has allowed us to formulate a highly scalable parallel approach which relies on asynchronous local communication both for calculating the solution and for load balancing.
