I was born nameless, christened Anshul and rechristened multiple times until I finally bore the name of Abhinav. I came onto earth at 8:39 a.m. on the seventh day of the rising fortnight by the lunar calendar which corresponds to the 11th of December (Sunday) in the year 1983 by the Gregorian Calendar. I was born with a double forehead and soon after got infected with jaundice. Hence, I remained in a 'nursery' for a week where my aunt would come and visit me everyday. Soon, I was taken home in a car (a luxury in those days) amongst lot of happiness (being the first child of Vimlesh and Anoop Kumar Sharma). Born lucky, we soon shifted to a huge house and I being the only infant in the nieghbourhood got the love and attention of everyone. This is just the beginning of the happy-go-lucky life I lived at Bokaro (Jharkhand, India) -- my birthplace.

My first school was Happy Hours run by Mrs. Gilgilla (that is all I remember). I was then admitted to Delhi Public School, Bokaro in 1988, just one year after the school had opened. Studying in DPS Bokaro taught me to be disciplined, industrious and active but it also taught me to be independent and rebellious. Having successfully completed my high school, I secured admission into the Computer Science department at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh, India) and graduated with a bachelors degree in 2005. This phase of my life gave me the time to think -- about what I am, why I am how I am and how should I be. Probably I'll never get so much free time again. It also gave me two beautiful gifts - friends and family. In 2005, I moved to the US and now, I am a Ph.D. student at the Department of Computer Science at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. I work with Prof. Laxmikant V. Kale in the Parallel Programming Laboratory. My time here has flown fast, too fast to stop and ponder over anything. I learnt skiing, roller blading, ice skating, doing research, writing papers, proposals, giving talks, presentations, driving long distances, organising huge parties -- all in two years.
